Obama's Choice to give the invocation

I found this article, or rather Obama's choice, interesting for who he's picked to give the invocation at his innaguration. Who you might ask...Rick Warren, author of "The Purpose Driven Life"

thankful

There are many things i can be thankful for this thanksgiving...

I'm thankful for God, not just for dying on the cross, but for taking care of me and my wife this summer!

I'm thankful for my family!

I'm thankful that i have a job and a place to live. This summer i was worried that that wouldn't happen yet God provided for me and my wife.

I'm also thankful for my wife (new as of May 08)

I'm thankful for my church (one of the reasons my wife and i ended up in Longview)

I'm thankful for my students, they have truly been a blessing and a joy to have!!

I'm thankful for my soccer boys, they helped make my first year teaching amazing.

I'm thankful for little things like a roof over my head and food in the fridge.

I'm thankful for wal-mart.

I'm thankful for having Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin, and Marion Barber in Fantasy Football

I'm thankful for all the technology that surrounds me and how i'm able to use it.

I'm thankful for having a car that works (with air conditioning)

I'm thankful for my church sports teams, which allow me to fellowship with the guys at my church and run around!

I'm truly thankful for all the love and support i've recieved from friends and family throughout the summer.

I'm thankful for my LeTourneau friends, who i miss!

I'm thankful for a Good Christian radio station to listen to.

I'm thankful for ESPN and the sports i get to watch

I'm thankful for many more things....

"A Better Way" by Downhere

From the album Wide Eyed and Mystified

I'm not alone, I really believe
You never go, You never leave
Here and now, You always stay
“I love you” could not be said a better way

It's everything You've promised
There's no greater love than this
From prophets until today
A man laying down His life for His friends
Your sacrifice has spoken, You gave everything
And “I love you” could not be said
A better way

I am forgiven, I clearly see
It's why You came to do all you did for me
Trading earth with heaven, You took my place
“I love you” could not be said
A better way

Because You redeem, I know what's to come
Everything I could lose here, You've already won
So You have my surrender, with passion obey
“I love you” could not be said
A better way

It's so true when you think about it. There truly is not a better way to say i love you than laying down your life for someone else. In the case of this song they talk about how Jesus laid down His life for us to simply say "I love you."

Biology Blog

Since you all are in Biology after this i will give you the opportunity to blog about biology in computer lit class! (the grade will count towards both classes if i think you met the requirements)

The other day we talked about the 11 different systems in your body (you may use your book/notes if you forgot). I want you to answer the following questions in 100 words or more.
  • Which of the 11 different systems do you think is the most important and why?

  • Of the 11 systems, if you could be any one of them, which would you be and why?

  • If you lost the ability of one of the systems (pick one), how would that effect your daily life?

Again, respond to these questions in 100 words per question (not total), so when i check these this weekend you should have at least 300 words in this post. If you decide you want to put a picture with your post make sure it is appropriate or you will get a zero on the assignment, if in doubt, don't do it (boys! (you know who you are)). I will be checking for these saturday morning so make sure they are done by then.

Love and miss you all!

P.S. Good game yesturday lady chargers! High School Soccer has a game today @ Trinity - Longview at 4:30 (see office for directions!)

extreme makeover: computer lab edition!

Computer lit students (and binkley).

If you read this then you have the distinct privilege of knowing that on monday you will be doing manual labor and we try to piece the computer lab back together. You might be asking yourself "piece it back together? what was wrong with it?" We'll, on friday a small hurricane blew through the lab and dropped a bunch of "new" tables in there, so our job on monday (and possibly tuesday) will be to unhook computers, put tables together, hook computers back up, and pray that they still work! It should be fun!!

enjoy the rest of your weekend and see you monday, come ready to work!

For your viewing pleasure below is a picture of me in 1985 (birthyear) playing on a computer, see the nerdiness started early :)

Ike

My hurricane experience was very similar to that of 3 years ago when Hurricane Rite came rolling through Longview, specifically LeTourneau University. We lost power for about 18 hours from 2pm on saturday until 10am on Sunday, just in time to quickly get ready for church! On Saturday we went to taco bell only to find that a bunch of people had the same idea. So we waited for about 40 minutes to get our food and then we went home and ate by candle light, it was fun. The rest of the day on sunday was filled with relief that we had power again. I found out later that day that school was cancelled so i was able to spend the rest of the day relexing and watching football!

On Monday i had some of my soccer guys over because some of them were without power. They came over and played xbox 360 for a few hours so they could enjoy the electricity and the air conditioning, which we really didn't need because the weather was so nice. Then we found out that we had school on tuesday so i had to get ready for the next day.

Remembering 9/11

I remember 9/11 well. I was in my 10th grade history class. Mr. Westlund was talking about something when the phone rang. He said "aw, if it's important they'll call back." he continued teaching and a minute later the phone range again. "i guess i should answer it he said." I was sitting in the second seat of the second row. We all turned around and watched him on the phone. His face had that look of shock, he said "someone ran into the world trade centers." rumbling started to fill the classroom. We were in shock as well. Mr. Westlund turned on the radio and we heard stories about the towers being run into as well as a truck that tipped over and the interchange up the road. We couldn't figure out which story was which, and for some reason we may have had to evacuate. We were all confused because the last time we checked the world trade centers were in New York City and we were in Woodbury, MN. We spent the rest of the day in prayer, watching the news, and thinking about what was happening.
After school that day we had to play a soccer game, it was not easy playing after coming off an emotional day at school but we played none the less.

One of the most real moments from 9/11 came the summer after. I went on a missions trip to New York City and got to see ground zero, where the trade centers once stood. It was amazing to see how BIG that site really was. It turned my experience on TV and made it real because i saw where it had happened and the destruction it had caused.

Up North!

One of my favorite vacations isn't really a vacation. Rather it is my many trips up to the family lake cabin. One of the main reasons i enjoy going up there is because of the relaxing atmosphere that it provides. Up North i can get away from all the busyness of life at home and simply relax and have some fun.

While up north there are many different activities that i can do. I can go fishing, ride a jetski, water ski, wake board, go fishing, play games, have a camp fire, roast marshmallows, or simply do nothing and just relax and enjoy the beautiful creation that God has given us.Here's me with one of my fish that i've caught up north.
The ultimate form of relaxation!
and my personal favorite, water skiing!!!

Everything

One of the songs that's really helped me to define my faith is the song "Everything" by Lifehouse. When looking at the lyrics to this song it really puts it's simple: "you're all i want, you're all i need. You're everything." As i listened to this song i began to realize what all those other songs I sang in church really meant. In Church you sing many songs that have to do with making God vital to life. You sing about Him being the air that you breath, the rock you stand on, the name above any other name. But simply put all those songs boil down to this one point and that is that God is your everything.

There's a skit (see youtube video below) that paints a beautiful picture of what everything really means. In this skip you see God, creating man, and then the fall of man, yet in the end you see Jesus taking up the sins of man to save him/her from hell. And isn't that all of our story? Created by God, fall into sin, and saved by grace through faith. I think when you look at this skit there isn't any part of it that you, nor I cannot relate to. We've all been tempted by the pull of sin, but in the end it is Jesus who is victorious over sin and we can live in harmony with Him.

At the end of the song you hear the line "would you tell me how could it be any better than this" and how true that statement is, how could it be any better than being with Christ?

I hope that if you take anything from this little blip it's this: make Jesus your everything.

Everything - Lifehouse
Find Me Here
Speak To Me
I want to feel you
I need to hear you
You are the light
That's leading me
To the place where I find peace again.

You are the strength, that keeps me walking.
You are the hope, that keeps me trusting.
You are the light to my soul.
You are my purpose...you're everything.

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

You calm the storms, and you give me rest.
You hold me in your hands, you won't let me fall.
You steal my heart, and you take my breath away.
Would you take me in? Take me deeper now?

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
And how can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Cause you're all I want, You're all I need
You're everything,everything
You're all I want your all I need
You're everything, everything.
You're all I want you're all I need.
You're everything, everything
You're all I want you're all I need, you're everything, everything.

And How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

P.S. if you want to see Coach cry watch me as i watch the clip.

"In A Moment" Chris Sligh

In a moment, love can pass you by
And in a moment, a heart can come alive

pre-chorus
Every moment’s getting better
Every moment brings me closer to you

chorus
Can I hold you till the morning light
Takes away the dead of night
And sunrise shines on you?
Can love take all these fears away
Till morning comes with brand new day?
It’s love that pulls us through
In a moment.

In a moment love can tear you down
And in a moment a heart can come around

pre-chorus *

chorus

I feel you in my heart
I feel you in my soul
Oh, you make me whole
In a moment…

chorus

I really like this song, "In a Moment" by Chris Sligh because the chorus really shows me how Christ loves me. The song also shows me how much can change in a moment. It shows that in a moment anything can change be it for the good or for the bad. I also really like the music that goes with the song, it really adds to the message of the song.

an example

To see an example of what a blog could look like check out my old blog by clicking here.

Introduction to Blogging

Welcome Computer Lit Class! Today begins your first day of blogging! Below you will read a brief introduction to this blogging unit...

A blog is basically an online journal. Some people like to express themselves through writing, and a blog is a way to do that. In this unit we will create a blog, learn how to update, edit, and enhance your blog, and then use your blog to share your thoughts on different topics relating to life, school, and your spiritual walk. Later on in this class you will use your blogs for other classes yet to be determined.
